Waterford & Quaker Hill Students Honored at Eastern
Emily Fulton of Waterford was inducted into Phi Theta Delta. Chloe Johnson of Quaker Hill received the Excellence in Health Sciences Award.

WILLIMANTIC, CT—Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Health Sciences held its fourth annual award ceremony on April 25. Sixteen students were inducted into the Phi Theta Delta Health Sciences Honor Society and 27 students were awarded for their academic achievements in the major.
Among the honorees were:
Emily Fulton '20 of Waterford, who majors in Health Sciences. Fulton was inducted into Phi Theta Delta. She was also presented with certificates of appreciation for being a teaching assistant and a peer mentor.

Chloe Johnson '20 of Quaker Hill, who majors in Health Sciences. Johnson was presented with the Outstanding Senior certificate of appreciation and Excellence in Health Sciences Award.
The events keynote speaker was Rukevwe Ehwarieme, a 2008 graduate of Eastern's biology program. Dr. Ehwarieme is an academic hospitalist/internist and the chief hospitalist at Backus Hospital in Norwich. In addition, he is a clinical instructor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine as well as the Quinnipiac physician assistant program.

The Health Sciences major consists of three concentrations: Public Health Studies, Pre-Nursing and Pre-Physical Therapy. This major provides an integrated foundation of knowledge in biological disciplines that includes morphological, cellular, molecular, physiological, developmental and evolutionary principles. Much of the coursework utilizes the scientific method and emphasizes skills in analysis, evaluation and critical thinking.
