No Buyers for Old Hershey Factory in Naugatuck

Officials believe the asking price for the property is too high.

Hershey Corp. is having a hard time selling the old Peter Paul Candy Factory property in Naugatuck, the Republican-American reports.

The real estate company, C.B. Richard Ellis held an online auction for the property last week where no bona fide offers were made.

The property located at 889 New Haven Road has been vacant since 2007 when Hershey shifted its production of Mounds and Almond Joy candies to a plant in Virginia, the paper reports.

According to the paper, officials believe that industrial companies interested in buying the property don’t have the kind of money Hershey is asking for. The latest asking price for the property was $7.4 million.

Mayor Robert A. Mezzo told the paper that the price Hershey is asking for is grossly exaggerated in the current market and he was also becoming concerned with the appearance of the property.
