2 Positive Coronavirus Tests Hit New Canaan Public School Staff
One staffer at the high school has tested positive for the virus, and so has one at West Elementary School, says Superintendent Luizzi.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Two New Canaan Public Schools staffers tested positive for the coronavirus as of Saturday, and both are in isolation, according to Schools Superintendent Bryan Luizzi.
One of the infected staffers is from New Canaan High School, and the other from West Elementary School. As a result, 10 high school students and 12 staffers from the high school are in quarantine, because they were in close contact with the infected staffer. Thirteen students from West Elementary and three staffers from the school are in quarantine.
The positive tests are not the first for the district. Last month, two New Canaan High School students tested positive for the virus.

District officials learned of the most recent positive tests on Friday, and Luizzi notified parents over the weekend.
"Since neither individual is a classroom teacher, the number of individuals now under quarantine is relatively low, and we will continue to support everyone involved to help them remain healthy, safe, and to ensure a smooth return to NCPS at the conclusion of their quarantine period and/or upon recovery from the virus," Luizzi said in an email to parents.

In the meantime, the positive tests will not alter the district's continued efforts of bringing students into the in-person learning process. Sixth graders returned to Saxe Middle School Monday, and fifth graders returned to the school last week.
