45 Underground Parking Spaces Coming To Pine Street In New Canaan
The spaces, which could benefit commuters, are slated for Walgreens.
NEW CANAAN, CT — A 45-space underground parking garage is slated for the Walgreens in New Canaan, a move that could benefit train commuters, according to First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.
The spaces underneath the Pine Street pharmacy were approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission this week when the group voted in favor of Walgreens' request to build ramps to access them. When the spaces will become available was not known.
"I was very pleased with the P&Z decision," Moynihan told Patch and other media outlets Thursday, adding that underground parking might become popular for commuters with expensive vehicles and/or businesses.

The town currently works with a company called Boxcar, which manages daily commuter spaces for the town at St. Aloysius R.C. Church on Cherry Street, and Moynihan said some of the Walgreens spaces might be added to that arrangement.
One thing the commission wanted to make clear is that it does not want to see Walgreens, or a future owner, build a second story onto the building because it has increased its parking, writes the New Canaan Advertiser.

If such a move were considered, it would require a new application submitted to the commission for approval.
