Ban Considered for Dogs at New Canaan's Bristow Bird Sanctuary

The town's Parks and Recreation Commission is looking into it.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The issue of whether dogs should be allowed at the Bristow bird sanctuary in New Canaan continues to stir debate, and the town's Parks and Recreation Commission again will discuss the matter in the future.

The sanctuary is adjacent to Mead Park, and is overgrown and has an old fence that needs replacing, reports NewCanaanite.com.

According to resident George McEvoy, the sanctuary used to have signs that said no dogs allowed. However, residents have walked dogs there, as they have in other town parks.

The Town Attorney will study the issue, and the commission will take up the matter at a later date.
