Bear Breaks Into CT Home, Helps Itself To Some Snacks: Report

Apparently it knows what a refrigerator is.

BARKHAMSTED, CT — A yearling bear broke into a home in Barkhamsted on Tuesday, and as the homeowner and a child watched, it broke into the refrigerator and pantry and helped itself to some food, writes the Waterbury Republican-American.

No injuries were reported, according to police.

The bear also ate some food that was on the kitchen counter, and then decided it had had enough and wandered out of the home just as cops arrived. To coax it back to the woods, an officer hazed it with a bean bag, reports the Rep-Am.

Tuesday's incident was not the first such encounter where a bear entered a Connecticut home this month. A bear was killed by state Environmental Conservation Police in Torrington after it wandered into a home and took some food.

Another bear broke into a parked car at a home in Canton in May.
