Car Stolen, Items Taken From Vehicles Parked In New Canaan: PD

A vehicles was stolen and items such as a wallet and laptop were taken from cars parked in New Canaan, according to police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A vehicles was stolen and items were taken from cars parked in New Canaan, according to police.

In a news release, police said a Whitney Avenue resident reported a Land Rover Discovery Sport was stolen from their driveway Wednesday around 6:30 a.m. The owner said the car was left unlocked but didn't think the keys were left inside, police said.

The owner's wallet, bag, credit cards, license and laptop were all in the car when it was stolen, police said. The owner was ultimately able to locate the car using a Land Rover app and it was recovered in Bridgeport.

According to police, the owner's wallet, bag and laptop, worth about $700 in total, were missing from the vehicle.

That same day, officers received a report of a vandalized vehicle near the paddleball courts at Waveny Park around 5:30 p.m. According to police, the vehicle was parked for a little over an hour, during which a rear passenger side window was smashed, however nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Around that same time, a bag was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at New Canaan High School. According to police, the owner was at a nearby field for about 25 minutes, during which a passenger side window was shattered and a bag was taken from the vehicle.

"Please remember to always lock your vehicles and take the keys with you," police said in a news release. "Secure valuables. Never leave valuables in your vehicle. Often, identity theft occurs when drivers' licenses and credit cards are stolen."
