The Carriage Barn Arts Center Scholarship Award
honoring Dan Bergfeld, past board member, sculptor, and lifelong supporter of the arts

The New Canaan Society for the Arts is establishing a scholarship award to support the educational costs of a Fairfield County, CT high school student who plans to major in art at an accredited College or University. The eligibility requirements for the scholarship are as follows:
- Fairfield County, CT resident
- Anticipates pursuing higher education and advancement in the arts
- Demonstrates a passion for the arts
- Recipient may be asked to participate in a future Carriage Barn Arts Center exhibition or community program.
Qualified students may apply by May 1, 2021 and the committee will announce the recipient on or about June 1, 2021. Student application link

The 2021 Award will be presented in memory of Dan Bergfeld (1933-2020), past board member of the New Canaan Society for the Arts. As a board member, sculptor and singer, Dan Bergfeld made extensive contributions to a number of artistic communities in New Canaan and beyond. In addition to his involvement with the Carriage Barn Arts Center, he served on the board of the New Canaan Country School, volunteered with the Philip Johnson Glass House, was a Silvermine Guild artist and sang in several choirs. Dan had a distinguished career in marketing and management consulting in both for-profit and non-profit sectors, and received a MMS (masters of Management Science and Industrial Engineering) and BA from Yale in History and Economics.
