Coyote Attacks Small Dog In New Canaan: Police

The Sept. 22 incident marks the third reported coyote attack in town in the past month, according to police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A small dog suffered two punctures on the neck and ear on Sunday when it was attacked by a coyote on Shady Knoll Lane in New Canaan, the third reported coyote attack in town over the past month, according to police.

Sunday's incident occurred at about 5 p.m. when the coyote grabbed the small dog.

"The dog owner was able to frighten the coyote and it dropped the dog," wrote police in a statement.

All of the recent attacks have occurred in the southwestern section of New Canaan, and pet owners are urged to supervise their dogs, large or small, and always have hazing tools on hand, according to police.

In August, a coyote killed a 13-pound Chihuahua mix during a morning attack on Adams Lane.

"Coyotes are being sighted routinely at Waveny Park, as well as the areas around the train tracks and the Merritt Parkway Greenway," police said.
