Coyote Kills A Chihuahua In New Canaan, Safety Alert Issued: PD

New Canaan police say coyotes have been spotted in town on two separate occasions in recent days.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A coyote killed a 13-pound Chihuahua mix dog in New Canaan early Thursday morning, in one of two coyote sightings in town in recent days, according to the police department, which issued a safety alert following the attack.

Thursday's incident occurred at about 7 a.m. when an Adams Lane resident chased two large coyotes, when one "grabbed, killed and ran off" with the Chihuahua, according to police.

On Aug. 19, a Labrador Retriever owned by a Knapp Lane resident suffered puncture wounds on one of its hind legs, which also was believed to have been caused by coyote. The dog's owner had spotted two large coyotes in his yard.
