Driver Injured In Fiery 1-Vehicle Crash In New Canaan: PD

Police are investigating the crash, which occurred Wednesday afternoon on Ponus Ridge Road in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A man suffered injuries not considered life-threatening Wednesday afternoon after he drove his vehicle over a stone wall and down an embankment before striking a utility pole on Ponus Ridge Road in New Canaan, according to police.

The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. Officers had been called to the road on a report of someone driving erratically.

"Responding units observed a light colored minivan stopped on Ponus Ridge Road with the operator initially unresponsive in the driver's seat," New Canaan police said. "After the operator became responsive he drove away from the officers on scene."

The vehicle then drove off the road and ignited into flames after striking the utility pole.

Officers pulled the man from the vehicle, and he was transported to Norwalk Hospital by members of the New Canaan Emergency Medical Service. New Canaan firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire.

The crash remains under investigation, and New Canaan police said more information may be released as it becomes available.
