Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Connecticut

A good weekend to take plenty of naps and binge watch some of your favorite TV shows or enjoy the Olympics.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney has the right idea about the weather forecast for this weekend. Sweeney said Saturday morning, "This weekend looks like a good binge tv watching kind of weekend." A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for the entire state in advance of heavy rain that will be moving in this evening and continuing through most of Sunday.

In its weather statement for southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service says, "Moderate to heavy rain may produce urban and poor drainage flooding from late today through Sunday night. There is also a low chance for minor flooding on some of the flashier rivers and streams across ... southern Connecticut. Any flooding impacts will be highly dependent on the location of heaviest rainfall."

For northern Connecticut, the National, Weather Service says "rain, heavy at times, will move into southern New England tonight. The rain could cause local urban and poor drainage flooding. There is also a possibility that areas of dense fog may develop tonight, especially where there remains a snow cover."

The rain is expected to be light during Saturday morning and early afternoon but the intensity will increase as the day progresses. The silver lining is that temps will be much warmer than we've seen lately with high temps in the mid to upper 40s. The rain becomes heavy late tonight and on Sunday.

The rain begins to lighten up and taper off Sunday night. Most areas will see up to two inches of rain by Monday morning. If you're wondering if there is snow in the 7-day forecast for Connecticut, the answer is not really. There is a 20-30 percent chance of snow showers on Tuesday night, but that is it. Next week looks relatively warm and dry after this weekends rain.
