Connecticut Weather: Surprise Snow Causes Numerous Accidents
Connecticut saw much more snow than anyone was expecting, which caused numerous traffic problems. Here's how much more to expect.

Well no one saw this surprise snow accumulation coming. Up until yesterday it appeared we would at worst see a coating to less than one inch of snow in some towns and now the National Weather Service isn't ruling out up to six inches in a few locations.
The surprise snow led to hundreds of schools delaying this morning and has caused several major accidents on the highway. If you're wondering what is left of this snow, the answer is still plenty in some areas. The National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 10 a.m. for southern New Haven County, and all of Middlesex and New London counties.
* WHAT...Snow occurring. Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the morning commute. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are expected, with total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.

Areas in Fairfield and Litchfield Counties and northern New Haven County will see the least amount of additional snow as up to one inch more of snow and the snow ends by noon.
For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service says in a Special Weather Statement, "Light to moderate snowfall continues across much of southern New England this morning. With cold temperatures, even the light snow is likely to stick on area roadways. An additional coating to as much as 2 more inches of snow are possible until it tapers off. This will make conditions on untreated surfaces slippery through the morning commute. Those traveling this morning are urged to use caution and allow for extra travel time.
Most of the snow tapers off after 12 p.m. statewide though some flurries are possible this afternoon too.
Our forecast for eastern Connecticut was wrong. I’m not going to sugar coat it. Some areas are near or over 6” of snow and I really didn’t see that coming. I’m sorry if the forecast messed up your day in any way. Man, this has been a really humbling winter! A lot of tough ones.

Well this was unexpected. One of the most poorly modeled storms I remember recently and a poor forecast by me to boot! Check out this picture from Preston where there’s 6” of snow. pic.twitter.com/bI4W1YgiwU

Yes, it's more than expected, especially in eastern CT. Snow will start to taper down across western CT soon, and eastern CT by around noontime. At least it's fluffy snow! pic.twitter.com/q2aMUmJ6Ak

This one caught me off guard and it looks like I'm not the only one. Several schools closed this morning and tractor-trailers crashing all over the place. The latest: https://t.co/8plpqHvrrk pic.twitter.com/uAYV32mLuU
