Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Sept. 16 In New Canaan

The annual event will be held at The Wastewater Plant.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The town's Department of Public Works is hosting Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at New Canaan's Wastewater Plant, located at 394 Main St.

According to New Canaan officials, household hazardous waste "can be any improperly discarded product that can be classified as toxic (poisonous), corrosive, flammable or reactive (explosive). Such products can be found in most homes, garages or workshops and when improperly disposed of can poison people and animals and pollute the home and natural environments."

Most of these material can be discovered by reading the label precautions on many of these products.

"Look for the words: Poison, Corrosive, Toxic, Volatile, Flammable, Caution, Danger, or Warning."

If you can't make it to Saturday's event, New Canaan residents are allowed to attend Hazardous Waste Days of several surrounding towns at no cost. Click here for a list of surrounding Towns.

When attending such an event in a neighboring community, be sure to bring a drivers license or vehicle registration to prove residency. Commercial (business) loads will not be accepted.
