New Canaan Among Aquarion Water Towns Under 'Demand Management'
The water company has released its irrigation guidelines for 2019, according to town officials.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Although the drought is over and area reservoirs are full, Aquarion Water Company has announced irrigation guidelines for 2019, which places several Fairfield County communities under "demand management" conditions.
The communities under the designation, which is designed to help water conservation efforts, are New Canaan, Darien, Stamford, Greenwich, Westport, and Newtown, according to officials.
"This is a collaborative effort with the Aquarion Water Company to protect the reservoirs and conserve water," town officials stated. "Once again, as in 2018, outdoor water use for irrigation will be allowed twice a week."

Under the plan, even numbered addresses can irrigate on Sundays and Wednesdays only, while
odd numbered addresses can irrigate on Saturdays and Tuesdays only. The initiative does not
apply to drip irrigation or spray hoses.
"This is for all Aquarion properties both residential and commercial. To be clear this ONLY applies to Aquarion properties. There are no restriction on private wells, nor on the other water companies in New Canaan."

For those seeking a variance for new construction to water outside of the two days allowed, those homeowners must apply to Aquarion and request a variance that would be good for five weeks.
