The theft occurred in January, according to New Canaan police.
NEW CANAAN, CT — A 78-year-old New Canaan man was arrested on a charge of second-degree reckless endangerment this week in connection with the reported theft of his own firearms, according to New Canaan police.
Arthur Chivvis, of Wydendown Road, surrendered to police Monday and was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000.
Chivvis contacted police on Jan. 11 to report that firearms and ammunition had been stolen from his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. What kinds of firearms, and the number stolen, were not disclosed by police.

"It was determined that neither the weapons nor ammunition were in a secure case or compartment within the vehicle," New Canaan police said. State law requires firearms should be stored in a locked case or container when not in use.
As a result, New Canaan police obtained a warrant for Chivvis' arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 8.
