New Canaan Police Find Hit-And-Run Driver Who Injured Bicyclist

The crash occurred Wednesday on Smith Ridge Road in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police have identified the driver who injured a bicyclist Wednesday in a hit-and-run crash on Smith Ridge Road in New Canaan, authorities announced.

The bicyclist, a 56-year-old Ridgefield man, suffered abrasions and other unknown injuries in the crash, which occurred just before 1 p.m.

New Canaan police have not released the name of the driver, and have not disclosed what charges, if any, that person might face.

"Members of the New Canaan Police Investigative Section with the assistance of the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation have located the suspect vehicle involved in the crash and identified the operator of this vehicle," said New Canaan Police Lt. Jason Ferraro in a statement.

"Initial witness statements providing a partial NY license plate of GHE and subsequent surveillance video were critical in leading to the identity of both the vehicle involved and suspect/operator."

The investigation is continuing, and Ferraro added that more information "will be released at a later date."
