New Canaan Reaches Crossroads With Deer Committee: Report

The chairman has questioned its existence.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The town may consider disbanding its Deer Committee after Chairman Dick Rose formally recommended such a measure this week, reports the New Canaan Advertiser.

The ad hoc committee, for which members are chosen by the Board of Selectmen, was created to "explore all means available for controlling the deer population to reduce the high incidence of Lyme disease," according to the committee's description on the town's website.

But Rose says that the committee is unnecessary because it doesn't really do anything. New Canaan has a deer hotline and a person who responds to phone inquiries.
