New Canaan Selectmen Recommend $157.7 Million Budget For 2021-22
The Board of Finance next will review the recommendation.

NEW CANAAN, CT — With an increase that represents roughly 2.5 percent above the current budget allocation, the New Canaan Board of Selectmen this week approved a 2021-22 town budget recommendation of $157.7 million. The current year's budget allocation is $153.8 million.
The recommendation for next year includes town operational spending of $29.3 million (up 2.4 percent), Board of Education spending of $95.4 (up 3.3 percent), debt service of $17.6 million (up 3.7 percent), and tax-supported capital projects of $1.8 million (down 18.6 percent).
"Fiscal Year 2022 budget preparation has been especially challenging this year due to the coronavirus pandemic," said First Selectman Kevin Moynihan. "The Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance have been very supportive of the School District's needs throughout the pandemic and the town is very appreciative of the Superintendent's accomplishments in keeping the schools open with in-person learning to the greatest extent possible. We look forward to working through the rest of the budget season to produce a very lean 2022 fiscal year budget under the circumstances."
