The New Canaan YMCA announced late Tuesday that they would be submitting an application to the town Planning & Zoning Commission within two months time for approval of a master renovation plan to the organization's existing structure.Â
"We are excited to share that we will soon be taking an important step as we work to build a stronger future for our Y, our members, and community," said New Canaan YMCA Executive Director Craig Panzano in a release.Â
Panzano said the renovation would be a functional and safety endeavor, focusing on replacing a "failing infrastructure" as well as realigning the "antiquated aspects of our facility with the contemporary needs and standards."
"We’ve heard our members' requests and feedback for upgraded facilities, and have worked to put together a master renovation plan which will be able to accommodate many of these requests while we also address renovating and replacing the older areas of our facility," he said.Â
The plans for renovations include:
- Renovating a deteriorating rear half of the building
- Replacing both pools
- Renovating locker rooms
- Updating the existing gyms, and wellness areas
- Repurposing space throughout the building for families and members of all ages
