New Canopies Approved For New Canaan's Talmadge Hill RR Station

The canopies will help protect commuters from the elements.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Three new canopies will be installed at the Talmadge Hill train station in New Canaan, after the town was able to secure funding from the state, according to First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.

The "bus stop"-style canopies, which will help to protect commuters from the elements, will cost about $46,000. The exact date of when the canopies will be constructed was not released.

"This is great news for New Canaan and other area commuters — from Darien, Wilton, North Stamford, Norwalk and Pound Ridge, NY and South Salem, NY — who use the Talmadge Hill station," said Moynihan in a statement.

The town has received state approval to use parking revenue reserve funds from the two state-owned parking lots at the New Canaan Downtown Metro North station to purchase and install the canopies.

State Sens. Will Haskell and Alex Bergstein, both Democrats who represent New Canaan and surrounding communities, were instrumental in obtaining state approval for the project's funding, according to Moynihan.
