Connecticut Weather: Timeline of Nor'easter Impact on Mother's Day Weekend Forecast

Some good news regarding all of this rain. It was announced that Connecticut's drought is officially over. Also warmer temps next week.

For those of you hoping the Nor’easter predicted for Mother’s Day weekend in Connecticut would blow out to sea, new data Thursday indicates that isn’t likely to happen. In fact, the National Weather Service says “confidence is high in a soaking windswept rain during” Saturday to Sunday morning

But there is new information that indicates that there may be some dry periods this upcoming weekend in the event you wanted to get outdoors for awhile. NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan shares his timeline of when to expect the heavy rain and when it will be dry.

“The timing of the weekend's storm is becoming more clear. I expect a lot of Saturday morning will be dry with light rain developing during the afternoon. The rain winds down early Sunday morning with a few hours of dry weather and maybe even a bit of sunshine mid/late morning and midday before more showers develop in the afternoon,” Hanrahan wrote.

“So a bit of good news that we'll have some dry periods this weekend. We're still expecting 1"-2" of rain across the state with locally higher totals in some towns where minor flooding could happen. The heaviest rain will be late Saturday evening and overnight,” Hanrahan added. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. And more good news via Hanrahan, who said on social media Thursday, “Finally!! The drought is over! We've had enough rain recently to return ground water and reservoir levels to near normal levels. This morning's drought monitor has removed us from any drought category.”

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons adds that for today expect, “Sun and clouds will mix back-and-forth today with high temperatures around 60°. Expect more clouds tomorrow staying dry & cooler 50s. Rain does increase throughout the day on Saturday heavy at times Saturday night ending early on Sunday. The heavy rain will end early Sunday, but a scattered shower still possible through the day.”

The National Weather Service says the Nor’easter should dump between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain and that winds will increase and peak late Saturday at gusts of 30-40 mph. Even as the rain tapers off early Sunday, it should remain windy the weather service states.

But there is some good news. Next Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to both be sunny days with temps into the 70s!

Here’s the updated forecast via the National Weather Service:

Thursday: Mostly sunny, highs in the mid 60s.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, high near 60.

Saturday: Rain develops during the day, heavy at times, especially at night. Temps chilly, only in the low 50s.

Sunday: Rain ends early, temps near 60 but an afternoon shower or two is possible.
