Nowacki Files Lawsuit Against Town for $11M

The New Canaan resident names 55 individuals and companies in the lawsuit.

New Canaan resident Michael Nowacki—himself no stranger to controversy—has filed a lawsuit against the town seeking up to $11 million in compensatory damages, according to the New Canaan News.

Nowacki, who lives on Lost District Drive, alleges the suit is necessary for "malicious negligence on the part of town officials of their duties, and for official retaliations against him as a whistle-blower," the New Canaan News reports.

The lawsuit contains 96 points of complaint, the New Canaan News reports, and names many town employees, including 20 police officers and three members of the police commission.

In the lawsuit, among other things, Nowacki alleges New Canaan Public Schools misused more than $4 million in funds granted to the school system for special education, The Advocate reports.

In May, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison following harassment and violating of a protective order filed by his ex-wife. During the trial for that charge, Nowacki represented himself, simultaneously playing witness and defense by carrying on a two-way dialogue and referring to himself in the third person.

Nowacki was also arrested in February for exceeding a three-minute time allowance when speaking before the General Assembly in Hartford at a Judiciary Committee hearing.
