Amy YenYun Wan Liang, 92, a Fairfield County CT area resident since 2014, and a long time Dutchess county resident, died peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2020.

Born in Soochow, China on February 5, 1928, she was the daughter of Chi Chun Yeh and Shao-Chiu Wan. Amy was the youngest of 8 children and attended Mary Farnham School and St. John’s University in Shanghai. Amy left communist China in 1949, and fled to Taiwan. She received her B.A degree from National Taiwan University in 1951 in Foreign Literature and Languages and worked for the Central Trust of China, the Japanese Embassy, and the Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction in Taiwan.

Amy took a two-month voyage on a steamer ship from Taiwan to America in 1955 to seek a new life by attending Syracuse University for post-graduate work in Education and graduating from New York University in 1958. She later received her master’s degree from SUNY New Paltz for Childhood Early Education and was a teacher for many years in Poughkeepsie.

Amy married the love of her life, Eliot Liang on September 14, 1957. They raised their three children in Hopewell Junction, NY, where they resided for 46 years. Amy was an active member of the Hopewell Reformed Church. During her later years, Amy attended New England Fellowship Church, enjoyed knitting, and relished being with her family in CT. Amy is survived by her sister Vera Chiu, and her children and their spouses, Linda and Stephen Halpert of New Canaan, CT, Grace and Daniel Federman of Newtown, CT, Philip and Shin Liang of Ellicott City, MD; and her grandchildren and their spouses: Christopher and Hazal, Melissa and Dave, Michelle, Erica and Alex, Benjamin, Justin, and Jessica. Her kind heart, compassion, humor and will be greatly missed.
