Plum Plums Cheese Moving From Pound Ridge To New Canaan

The popular cheese shop announced the move on its website.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Plum Plums Cheese is moving from Pound Ridge, New York, to Cherry Street in New Canaan next month, the shop recently announced on its website.

Owned by married couple Gayle Martin and Michael Riahi, Plum Plums features a wealth of cheeses and artisan fare, which the two source from around the world. Martin is a Certified Cheese Professional, "one of fewer than 900 individuals in North American and Europe" to achieve the honor.

According to Martin, the shop was facing the prospect of a steep rent increase at the Pound Ridge location, so they began to look for a new spot for the shop.

"New Canaan was a natural fit for us, as the town was already significantly represented in our customer base," Martin said about the seven-year-old shop. "Our location in Pound Ridge was quite literally steps away from New Canaan, so we drew a good amount of fans from across the border."

Martin and Riahi "were thrilled" to find the 149 Cherry St. location, not only because it is "beautiful and sunny," but also because it is nearly twice the size of the old location, which will allow the store to add items.

"We’re gearing up to increase our selection of cheeses, charcuterie and gourmet foods, and we’ll be adding a selection of prime meats that we source from a wonderful butcher in Brooklyn," Martin said. "We’re also increasing our lunch selections with a larger variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, freshly made soups and daily special sandwiches and wraps. And I’ve been busy shopping to expand my gift selection."

In addition to its food and gift offerings, the store also hosts classes in what to pair with certain cheeses, and primers on the cheeses of various countries around the world.

The store expects to close the Pound Ridge location on March 21 and open in New Canaan on April 1.
