Road Closed, Some Power Outages Reported In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, CT — A road is closed in New Canaan and a few power outages have been reported as Tropical Storm Elsa passes through the area Friday morning.

Russ Kimes, who serves as the New Canaan Fire Department's assistant chief and the town's emergency management director, said the only road closed as of 10:30 a.m. is Route 106, between Lapham Road and Weed Street, due to rocks washing down onto the road from the train overpass.

Kimes said the state has been notified, however there is no ETA yet on when the road will reopen.

As of 10:30 a.m., Eversource is reporting less than four power outages in New Canaan, Kimes said.

"The town has fared very well thus far during the storm," Kime said, "thanks in large part to the preparatory work in advance of the storm by all our town departments, especially the highway department who cleared up catch basins and storm drains in advance of the storm. We are expecting winds to increase following the storm moving away."

Kimes also reminded residents not to drive through any standing or moving water, as it is impossible to know how deep it is and vehicles could easily become stuck and require rescuing.

"Turn around," Kimes said, "don't drown!"
