The German Shepherd loose along the North Stamford-New Canaan border could soon be trapped and brought in safely from the winter elements, authorities said Friday.
According to New Canaan Animal Control Officer Mary Ann Kleinschmitt, officers from the office have been tracking the dog all week and arranging for food to be left out where it's been spotted. She said Friday that the dog has been coming and going freely from a covered trap where food and water have been left out.
Kleinschmitt said the trap was left unset in the yard of an Oenoke Lane home to familiarize the dog with the cage and let it become comfortable with being inside it. Now that it is freely eating and coming and going, Kleinschmitt said they'll set the trap Sunday and, when the dog comes to eat, they'll be able to pick it up.
"He's meandering around town there, coming and going. He's not running around in the woods anymore," she said. "We're asking people to please stay away because he still gets spooked. Hopefully we'll be able to get him into the shelter by Sunday."
