St. Luke's Girls Lacrosse Looking To Bounce Back
The St. Luke's Girls Lacrosse team has a talented roster with a mix of youth and experience

St. Luke’s Girls Lacrosse Head Coach Kathy Drake is thrilled her team will get to compete in 2021, after being robbed last spring of her first full season with the Storm, which was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Drake joins the Storm with a wealth of experience as both a player and coach. Drake graduated with a bachelor’s in exercise and sports science from Colorado State University, where she was a four-year starter and lead scorer. She was also named Most Valuable Player her sophomore, junior and senior years.
Coach Drake has spent the previous six years as the JV head coach at Wilton High School, following three years as the Wilton varsity assistant coach. In addition to her experience at Wilton, Coach Drake founded the Ambition Lacrosse Club, where she serves as a director. She was also director of the CT Chargers Girls Lacrosse Club and currently serves as the head women’s lacrosse coach for the CT Grizzlies.
Drake was extremely disappointed the 2020 season didn’t move forward but is equally as excited to be back this spring: “The cancellation of last spring’s season was devastating. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to compete again and to be back on the field with the girls, who have been working extremely hard. I want to play team lacrosse and encourage the girls to play with confidence. I also want the girls to take risks at practice and challenge themselves.”
This year’s squad is captained by Ryan Weil ‘21, Molly Kim ‘21, Annalise Correia ‘22, and Macy Owsley ‘22. Coach Drake wants the quartet to foster inclusiveness and camaraderie: “We expect our captains to lead by example, both on and off the field, and to ensure all players feel included and a part of the SLS girls lacrosse family.”
The Storm boasts a talented roster with a blend of youth and experience that Drake hopes will really gel: “We want the group to grow, develop, and play together. We have a number of new players who I think can really help us this season. Sarah Beran ‘23 has been outstanding so far. Sarah Lau ‘24has also excelled, and we have two eighth graders Georgia Bennett and Maggie Fluette who we are very excited about. Combine that with the experience of Annalise, who is one of our most valuable assets on both attack and defensive, and the talent of Ryan, Macy, Molly and Lily Magliacano ‘24, we have a very strong core.”
Weil is thrilled to be back and sees huge potential in her teammates: “I am very eager to get out and start playing again. I think that we have a great group of girls, who are dedicated, athletic, and enthusiastic. I want the team to demonstrate good sportsmanship, perseverance, and grit, but make sure we have a lot of fun doing it.”
St. Luke’s girls lacrosse lost its opening three games against Greenwich Country Day School and Greens Farms Academy, and Sacred Heart but hopes to bounce back with upcoming games against Holy Child and Hamden Hall.
