The last time St. Luke’s Softball Team took to the field, they completed another remarkable season by winning the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) Tournament title and the Western New England Preparatory Schools Association (WNEPSA) Class C Championship.

There will be no playoffs this spring, but the Storm hopes to challenge for the FAA regular season title again. The Storm won four straight regular season championships between 2015-18, but let its grip on the trophy slip in 2019.

Head Coach Elizabeth Joseph returns to guide the Storm and is impressed with the attitude of the team: “The girls come to practice ready to learn and always looking for ways to improve. I think they are more excited than ever to be on the field. We are having a lot of fun.”

The team is captained by Andrea DiTeodoro ‘22 and Lili Messina ‘22, who Joseph believes will lead by example. “I’m looking for our captains to foster the ‘family’ feel that St. Luke’s softball has adopted as one of its core values. I expect them to keep encouraging and to assist their teammates in any way possible. I know Andrea and Lili will not only lead on the field but also off the field.”

There are a number of new players on the roster, with only Andrea, Lili and Alexandra Winham ‘22 remaining from the 2019 championship winning team. Joseph is confident the new players will have an immediate impact: “Aidan Panian ‘23 is a natural athlete, with tremendous raw talent and ability. Evelyn Borris ‘23 comes to practice everyday with a positive attitude and always gives her best effort to improve her game. Alexandra Bacher ‘24 is a very dedicated softball player who puts in a lot of practice. We look forward to seeing her pitch on the mound this year. Dakota Kelly ’22 brings positive vibes to practice everyday, and I am excited to see her accomplishments this season, on the mound and at the plate.”

The Storm opened the season with two impressive victories against Greenwich Country Day School on Saturday, April 10, and Greens Farms Academy on Wednesday, April 14. The team has a non-FAA doubleheader on Saturday, April 17, against Marianapolis Preparatory School, before returning to league play on Tuesday, April 20, against Holy Child School.

As for the FAA League Championship, Joseph said: “It would be great to be regular season champs. We want the girls to have fun but work hard in the process, leaving it all out on the field every time. We want them to play with heart, passion and integrity. We also want the team to show respect for each other as well as the teams we play. Great sportsmanship is a very important quality we demand from our players.”
