Store Bill for $1,441 After Identity Theft from New Canaan Woman

After someone opened an account at BJ's Wholesale Club in her name, a New Canaan woman was told she'd been charged quite a bit.

A 39-year-old Danvers Lane woman received a BJ Wholesale Club card in the mail on April 20, then called the store to tell her she hadn’t applied for membership, only to be told that she’d already been charged $1,441.

The bill was from a BJ’s Wholesale Club store in Quakertown, PA. The company agreed to drop the bill, so the victim didn’t have to pay anything.

The woman told New Canaan police the next day that she then did a credit check on herself and found someone also tried to start a membership for Sam’s Club stores and a Sprint account, both in her name.
