Three Outstanding Student-Athletes Honored
NCHS Athletic Department Chooses Three Rams of the Week at the Finish of the Fall Season
New Canaan High School Athletic Department has chosen three athletes for their Ram of the Week for the past three weeks. Courtney O’Connell (Senior, Girls Soccer) had an incredible corner kick in the second half in the FCIAC-West Region playoff game vs Darien last week, which helped clinch the team’s win (2-1). Darien was previously undefeated. “Oh my gosh, it feels amazing. It feels even better because we’ve had a lot of obstacles and challenges throughout the season,” O’Connell said. “We lost to them three times in the regular season, but it didn’t matter, because in the end, we came out on top and won the championship. We came through so much adversity.”
Vivian Reeves (Senior, Co-Captain, Field Hockey) was honored as Ram of the Week for the week ending November 6 for her leadership on the field hockey team and for her outstanding community service. Last spring, Vivian, a junior at New Canaan High School, reached out to Carver Center just as they made the awful decision to cancel this year’s Spring Break College Tour — the first time in 50 years that chaperoned Carver students would not board their chartered bus at the Carver Community Center to embark upon a life-changing road trip to the schools they aspire to attend. Whether asking questions, touring the campuses, or sharing meals with former Carver peers now excelling at these excellent schools, the goal has always been to motivate each visiting Carver student to envision their futures as a successful college student.
But Vivian offered to build a database of all the virtual tours she could find and now Carver students can use her newly created database to see 360-degree video college tours. “While this is a crazy time, I am hopeful for the future and looking forward to working with Carver,” Vivian said.
Luca Palamenti (Senior, Boys Cross Country) was chosen a Ram of the Week for the week ending October 30 for his performance throughout this season. His coaches states, “Luca was our number one performer and has won three-quarters of our home meets and finished second at the FCIAC Division Championship. He led the team to a tie for first at the divisional meet. He has shown leadership and held a positive attitude throughout the season.”
