Unlocked Vehicles Entered, Items Stolen In New Canaan: Police

Police urge New Canaan residents to always lock their vehicles and take keys and valuables with them.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police said eight vehicles parked in town were recently entered and items were stolen from some of them.

In a news release, Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski said officers received a report Saturday morning of two Volkswagens parked at a residence on Hawks Hill Road having been entered overnight.

According to Krolikowski, both vehicles had been left unlocked in the driveway. A key fob was reported missing from one of the cars and a wallet was reported missing from the other vehicle, Krolikowski said.

On Sunday, officers received a report around 9 a.m. of an unlocked vehicle on Valley Road having been entered overnight. Krolikowski said golf clubs and a golf bag were reported missing from the unlocked vehicle.

About twenty minutes later, officers received a report of two unlocked vehicles having been entered on Deep Valley Road.

A key fob was reported stolen from one of the vehicles, Krolikowski said. A purse with credit cards, documents containing the vehicle owner's social security number and documents containing a client's personal information inside was taken from the other vehicle.

Around 3:30 p.m., a bag with credit cards inside was reported missing from an unlocked vehicle on Lantern Ridge Road. A second Lantern Ridge Road resident also reported an unlocked vehicle having been entered that day, however nothing was stolen, Krolikowski said.

Additionally, a resident of Hidden Meadow Lane reported an unlocked vehicle had been entered Sunday, however nothing was taken from that vehicle, Krolikowski said.

"Please remember to always lock your vehicles and take the keys with you," Krolikowski said in a news release. "Secure valuables; never leave valuables in your vehicle. Often, identity theft occurs when drivers' licenses and credit cards are stolen."
