Updated Bear Statistics: How Does New Canaan Compare?

NEW CANAAN, CT — It's a good thing state officials have updated the state's black bear sightings, because, so far this spring, the bears have come out with a bang. We have had bears after brownies and bears on a trampoline.

Yes, the bears are back for the spring of 2017 and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has updated its sighting statistics from May 20, 2016 to May 17, 2017. The two incidents took place in Avon, which leads the state with 529. Farmington is next with 418.

New Canaan had two reported sightings during the period, and Stamford had nine. By comparison, both Darien and nearby Greenwich had none.
