Woman Arrested In $11,400 Stolen Credit Card Case In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 27-year-old Lawndale, California, woman was arrested on a warrant by New Canaan police Thursday in connection with an illegal spending spree of more than $11,400 last year using credit cards stolen in New Canaan.

Constanza Maria Baltra-Moreno was charged with second-degree larceny and first-degree identity theft in connection with the Nov. 14, 2019, incident. New Canaan police received a complaint from a victim on that date that credit cards had been stolen from her vehicle parked at the New Canaan Mounted Troop; later that same day, the cards were used illegally at The SoNo Collection mall in Norwalk to buy more than $11,400 worth of merchandise.

"A subsequent investigation utilizing surveillance video from the stores showed a woman later identified as Baltra-Moreno making the purchases using the stolen credit cards," New Canaan police said.

The department obtained an arrest warrant for Baltra-Moreno, and on Thursday New Canaan police traveled to Massachusetts to take her into custody. Baltra-Moreno had been in custody in that state.

Baltra-Moreno was held in lieu of bail of $100,000, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
