Woman Reports Threat After Threat from Ex-Boyfriend

Patrick Smith's latest arrest.

The first threat Patrick Smith, 30, of New Canaan gave his ex-girlfriend was that if she didn’t give him money she owed him, she said, and it escalated from there, according to police.

He also said he would slash her mother’s tires, that he would set the girlfriend’s house on fire and that he would beat up her brother, according to the police report.

New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the matter:

Smith called the former girlfriend, also a New Canaan resident, while she was at work on Tuesday, April 21, and she told him that she would talk about the matter with him as long as he was calm. That’s when he made the first threat.

When she arrived home from work at 6:30 p.m., he was waiting for her in the parking lot.

He told her again that if he didn’t get the money, he’d slash her car tires then and there. A female witness saw the confrontation.

The ex-girlfriend walked away, and Smith also left — without slashing any tires or doing any of the other things he threatened.

For a while that evening, the girlfriend thought about what to do next, and at 9:14 p.m., she spoke to New Canaan police, who visited Smith at his home at 39 East Ave. He denied making any threats and said he didn’t even talk to her.

He was arrested on charges of second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $25,000, which he did not post before appearing in state Superior Court in Norwalk the next day.

Smith was recently arrested by New Canaan police and charged with on an accusation that he was naked in an area where anyone could see him through his window on March 23. Before that, he was arrested by police on an accusation that he tried to throw his father from a second-floor porch.
