7 Newington Businesses Fail Tobacco Compliance Check
Police recently conducted checks of 25 local businesses.
NEWINGTON, CT — Police recently conducted compliance inspections of business selling tobacco products and found seven establishments in violation. According a statement from police, the compliance check included an underage youth, employed by the state's Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, would enter the business and attempt to buy tobacco products.
Twenty-five businesses were part of the unannounced compliance inspection. Those that failed the inspection were issued infractions of $200 for the sale of tobacco to minors under eighteen.
The license holder at each establishment also faces additional administrative sanctions from the Department of Revenue Services, the state agency that issues Cigarette Dealer Licenses, according to police. The businesses found in violation were:
