Democrat Gary Turco Runs for Re-Election

(NEWINGTON, CT) --- Current State Representative of Newington’s 27th District, Gary Turco announced today that he will be seeking the nomination of the Newington Democratic Party to run for re-election during the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Turco pledges to continue providing leadership that delivers for Newington and help all those affected by our current crisis.

“It has been an honor to serve the residents of Newington during my first term and together we have accomplished so much to make our community a better and brighter place to live,” said Turco. “Although we have been hit with hard times due to Covid-19, I will continue to work hard for the community helping to improve the quality of life, lower the cost of living, and provide greater economic opportunities for all of Newington’s residents. I humbly ask for the support of Newington residents to continuing fighting for them at our State Capital.”

Gary Turco has achieved much during his first term. Some notable accomplishments include:

• Securing over $1 million additional state dollars for Newington to help stabilize property taxes and support the school system.
• Passing legislation to give a tax break to seniors by expanding state income tax exemptions on social security and pensions.
• Preserving an additional 18.2 acres of land on Cedar Mountain for open space.
• Mandating coverage for preventative health care services like ultrasounds to detect breast cancer.
• Creating a new earned family medical leave program.
• Fighting hard to help reduce college students’ loan debt.

Gary has named Terri-LaPenta-Duffek Chair of the Campaign, Mike Nafis as Treasurer, Diana Serra as Deputy Treasurer, Betsy Francolino as Communications Director, and former State Representative Sandy Nafis as Special Advisor.
