Newington Looks to Repeat as Volleyball Champions

NEWINGTON, CT — As brackets for the CIAC boys volleyball championships were released Friday morning, Newington High School found itself in a very familiar position.

The Indians are the top seed in Class M as they seek to repeat last year's championship march. They have won three of the past four Class M titles, and four championships since 2012.

Newington draws a first-round bye, and will host the Farmington/Daniel Hand winner in the quarterfinals June 1.

Here are the opening matchups for teams from schools in Patch towns in Hartford and Tolland counties. Click the class headers for complete brackets.

Class L

1st Round - May 30

• No. 13 Glastonbury at No. 4 East Hartford
• No. 12 Shelton at No. 5 Southington
• No. 10 Cheshire at No. 7 Hall
• No. 11 Enfield at No. 6 Darien

Class M

1st Round - May 30

• No. 1 Newington, bye
• No. 5 South Windsor, bye
• No. 9 Daniel Hand at No. 8 Farmington
• No. 10 Wethersfield at No. 7 Rockville
