Obit: Inge Melching, 88, Of Newington

Inge (Mauer) Melching, 88, of Newington and formerly of Vernon and West Hartford, beloved wife of over 67 years to Kurt Melching, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018. Born in Germany on July 19, 1930, the daughter of the late Freidrich and Agnes (Schafer) Mauer, she grew up in Germany and came to the United States with her husband and daughter in 1956 and they lived in New York, West Hartford, and Vernon before moving to Newington two years ago. Prior to her retirement, Inge was employed by The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford for many years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Heide Weise of Rocky Hill. She was extremely loving and had a smile that would light up a room. She was a true nature lover taking care of birds, flowers and grounds everywhere she went. She loved the beach and collecting seashells. She was an excellent cook and baker, as well as an incredible knitter and crocheter. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 50 Court Street, Cromwell. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489-1058.
