Obit: Rita Lombardo Of Newington

She was a bookkeeper, mother and grandmother.

Rita (McCormack) Lombardo, 92, of Newington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 2, 2018. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary (O’Neil) McCormack and the beloved wife of the late Felix Lombardo. Rita was a bookkeeper all her life and a dedicated volunteer at the Hospital of Special Care for over 22 years.

She was a parishioner and member of the Ladies Guild at Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. A beloved mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by her son, Phil Lombardo and Nancy, of Unionville, her daughters, Sharon Lombardo of Newington and Beth Lombardo and her husband Russ Lozis, of E. Hampton, her grandchildren, Kyla Lozis of Honolulu, HI, Samantha Garfall and her husband Jay, of Scottsdale, AZ and Kevin Lombardo of Simsbury. She is also survived by her brother, Robert McCormack of Woodstock Valley, her sisters, Katie Scalise of Berlin, Virginia Lombardo of New Britain and Lorraine Gibson and her husband Jack, of Old Lyme, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Rita was predeceased by her son Jim, two sisters and two brothers, and close cousin, Teresa Fellows.

Funeral services for Rita will begin on Friday morning, December 7, 2018 at 8:45 a.m. at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, with the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and Friends are invited to call on Rita’s family on Thursday evening, December 6, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial. The Lombardo family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Chrissy Torres and Joe Roy for the many hours of care given to Rita. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Rita’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
