Air Quality Alert Issued for Thursday

Air pollution levels of ground-level ozone in the area are predicted to be unhealthy for sensitive groups on Thursday.

For the second day in a row, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an air quality alert.

Air pollution levels of ground-level ozone and/or particles are predicted to be unhealthy for sensitive groups including active children and adults, and people with lung disease, such as asthma.

The American Lung Association states that when air quality level is orange or above, those in the risk groups should adjust plans for the day.

"Avoid prolonged vigorous activity outdoors. The health effects of pollution are worsened over extended periods of exposure, and by the deep, rapid breathing that accompanies exercise. Stay away from high-traffic areas, and do not exercise near those areas."

The Air Quality Index warns the public when air pollution is dangerous. "Keeping track of the current air quality information can help you take steps to protect yourself, children, and others from unhealthy levels of air pollution," according to the American Lung Association.
