NEW MILFORD, CT — Improperly disposed of charcoal grill contents caused the fire that damaged four units in the Harry Brook Village condominium complex early Tuesday morning fire, the News-Times is reporting. Deputy Fire Marshal Kevin Reynolds made that determination Tuesday afternoon.

Crews from Water Witch Hose Company No. 2 were first on the scene shortly after 4:30 in the morning, the fire company reported on its Facebook page. Firefighters were met by heavy smoke pushing from the attic of the entire building and fire consuming a portion of the rear wall spanning 3 floors. First responders sounded a second alarm which brought help from Northville, Gaylordsville, and Brookfield to the scene. Later, Danbury provided an engine and crew to help with overhaul.

Smoke detectors alerted occupants of the affected units and police officers quickly evacuated the remainder of the building, according to the fire company's report.
