Grim Search for Candlewood Lake Teen Continues

NEW MILFORD, CT — The search for the teen feared drowned after going swimming at Candlewood Lake on Memorial Day will continue, after a frustrating day spent in and around the lake turned up no results.

"The diving teams have been unable to locate the missing swimmer," Mayor Pete Bass wrote on Facebook.

The search is being conducted underwater in the Dike Point area of the park.

Search dogs in boats joined scuba-equipped officers from Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue, the New Milford Police Department, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and State Police specialists in the grim operation Tuesday.

Authorities have not released the name of the teen, missing since Monday afternoon.

"State Diving team will continue until dark then all diving teams will resume tomorrow morning," Bass said.
