Canterbury, Faith Prep Named Best Schools in Connecticut for 2017

NEW MILFORD, CT — In Connecticut one thing is certain: Where your child goes to school matters. Parents move to specific communities because of the school systems, and they are also willing to shell out thousands in tuition to send their child to the best private schools. According to the latest ranking from Niche.com, Connecticut has dozens of great private K-12 and high schools to choose from.

In its list for 2017, the education and real estate website ranked 13 private K-12 schools and 60 private high schools as the state's best (there is some overlap between the two lists).
Leading the way among private K-12 schools are: 1. Greenwich Academy, in Greenwich; 2. Brunswick School, also in Greenwich; 3. Greens Farms Academy, Westport; 4. King School, Stamford; and 5. The Master's School, West Simsbury.

The top five private high schools in the state are: 1. The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville; 2. Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford; 3. Hopkins School, New Haven; 4. The Taft School, Watertown; and 5. The Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor.

The rankings are "based on rigorous analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users," according to Niche.com. (Still skeptical? You can pick apart the site's full methodology here.)

Nationally, the top five private K-12 schools are:

• Horace Mann School, Bronx, New York
• The Harker School, San Jose, California
• Trinity School, New York, New York
• Polytechnic School, Pasadena, California
• Sidwell Friends School, Washington, D.C.

The top five private high schools in the United States are:

• Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts
• Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire
• The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, New Jersey
• Harvard-Westlake School, Studio City, California
• St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire

Greenwich Academy is the highest-ranking Connecticut private K-12 school at No. 31 in the U.S.; The Hotchkiss School is the state's highest-ranking private high school at No. 13.
