Housatonic Habitat to host open house in New Preston

Housatonic Habitat for Humanity will host a series of "appointment-only" open house events for prospective first-time home buyers in New Preston on October 24 & 25 and November 14 & 15 between Noon and 4 pm. "We have completed the first of eight homes we are building on Myfield Lane in New Preston," said Housatonic Habitat's Executive Director Fran Normann. "It's time to begin developing a pipeline of homeowners for the volunteer-built homes we will build over the next few years!" According to Normann, "For many area families, owning a Habitat home costs less than a rental! Working families can buy their first home with fixed payments and then build a nest egg for their future."

As the builder and the “bank”, Habitat homeownership stands out from the standard home-buying experience. “We calculate payments at 30% of your household income.
