NEW MILFORD, CT — The town has scheduled a public hearing on the creation of a committee to oversee large-scale construction projects, the News-Times is reporting.

If approved by the Town Council and then by residents at a town meeting, the permanent municipal building committee would work to prevent delays and budget overruns, such as happened last year with the replacement of oil tanks at the schools' central offices. Those projects ran $150,000 over budget.

The new committee would be staffed with six to nine members and include local experts in the building trades, as well as a representative from the Town Council and the boards of finance and education.
