NEW MILFORD. CT — Police have arrested a New York man for an armed robbery of the Danbury Road Verizon store in 2017.

Anthony Lauria, 27, of Yonkers, NY, was charged with first-degree criminal liability to commit robbery and first-degree criminal liability to commit larceny.

The charges stem from a heist at the Verizon store on 115 Danbury Road on Aug. 10, 2017. Police say that Lauria pretended to be a customer, asking about items in the store. Surveillance cameras then recorded him entering a black sedan, which later pulled up to the front of the store, discharging two masked men.

The men entered the store, and one pointed a gun at two employees, police said. The armed man had the employees tie themselves up with zip ties. The two suspects then went into the inventory room and started filling up bags with merchandise. As a result of this armed robbery, the suspects made out with over $48,000 worth of inventory, according to the police report.

Police say they were eventually able to identify Lauria as a suspect through witness statements, video footage and latent fingerprint evidence found at the scene.

Lauria was held on a $350,000.00 court set bond and scheduled to appear in Torrington Superior Court on March 28.

Police said warrants for more arrests are pending.

“I want to commend our detectives for their hard work and tenacity,” Chief Spencer Cerruto said. “They spent countless hours on this case and brought a dangerous suspect to justice.”
