New Milford Ponders Land Gift
Those looking the gift acreage in the mouth worry that its care, maintenance and development might end up being a financial liability
NEW MILFORD, CT — The Town Council is pondering whether or not to accept the gift of 35 acres of land near Tory's Cave, the News-Times is reporting.
At their meeting Monday night, the council met with a representative of the landowner, Eagle Holdings.
The property is worth $400,000, according to the representative, and includes pristine wetlands, as well as a portion of a statewide hiking trail. About three acres of it is classified as core farmland.

Those on the council looking the gift acreage in the mouth worry that its care, maintenance and development might end up being a financial liability that overshadows its value.
The parcel would join a protected Weantinoge Heritage Land Trust property with the 25 acres donated to the town in 2012, for 170 continuous acres. Weantinoge wants the acreage, a representative for the landowner told the council, but could not come to terms with the owner.
