New Milford Runners Capture Cross Country Titles
Green Wave athletes took first place individual honors in both the Class L boys and girls races at Wickham Park.
MANCHESTER, CT — Freshman Claire Daniels of New Milford High School blew away the pack, emerging as the Class L girls cross country individual champion Friday at Wickham Park.
Daniels covered the 3.1 mile course in 18:56, a full 24 seconds ahead of runner-up Meredith Bloss of Guilford. The Green Wave also received top performances from Brooke Morabito (3), Kathleen Delaney (4) and Shannon Palmer (11) in placing third in team competition.
In the day's first of 12 races, the Class L boys, Eli Nahom of New Milford also won handily in 15:55, 11 seconds better than Robbie Cozean of Xavier. Garred Farrell finished 14th as the Green Wave boys wound up seventh.

Top 12 individual finishers and the top two teams advance to the State Open on Nov. 2, also at Wickham Park.
