NEW MILFORD, CT — David Gronbach, the former mayor of New Milford, has announced his filing as a candidate for Connecticut’s State Senate, 30th District, which includes 14 towns in Northwestern Connecticut from Brookfield to the Massachusetts border, according to a statement from his campaign.

Gronbach, 44, served as the Mayor of New Milford from 2015-2017. He is an attorney and works with his wife, Vanessa, at their law firm, Gronbach Law Offices, practicing commercial litigation, education law, employment law, and offers government consulting services. He also does pro bono work for individuals and families seeking asylum in the United States.

Gronbach and his wife previously owned a local bookstore in downtown New Milford, the Bank Street Book Nook.

He campaigned for mayor in 2015 on a promise to convert a closed elementary school into a Town Community Center. Upon taking office, he worked to preserve the building. Town agencies like Parks and Rec, Youth Agency, and Social Services were moved into the Community Center, which opened in 2017 and continues to serve the community.

Gronbach also oversaw completion of an affordable housing project near Downtown New Milford and construction of a bike and walking path known as the River Trail, according to the statement.

On running for State Senate, he said: "When I was Mayor of New Milford, I was a strong voice for good government, smart spending, and investing in our selves. Our Towns need someone in Hartford with these principles to stand up to the status quo, which, as Ronald Reagan said, 'is Latin for the mess we’re in.' The 30th District needs a fresh voice that is independent enough to work within the Democratic majority and stand up for our unique needs and issues.

"I do not take this step lightly, but the encouragement from friends throughout the District has convinced me that the people of Western Connecticut want a State government that works for them. The people want someone who recognizes the diverse needs of our rural, suburban, and city communities and will fight for them in Hartford.

"Together, we can hold the line for middle class and lower income families; we can relieve the financial burdens placed on us; and we can get Western Connecticut a seat at the table to demand more resources for economic development, conservation, tax relief, and education."
